If you’ve been following along with our home renovation, you know we’ve slowly been transforming our 90s fixer upper into our family home. We recently embarked on our biggest project to date… we finished our basement! I promise to catch you up on all the design and renovation details of that project, but today I’m jumping ahead to share something amazing we found to furnish this new space: the Bellamia Bella Sofa.
The vision for our basement since day one has been to create an elevated space for hosting. Big family movie nights, lots of friend hangs, and a stylish room to create memories with our people.
When the dust had settled and we started shopping for furniture, I had my heart set on a modern style with a loungy feel. Specifically, a pit couch. Yes, like those 70’s style couches, but with a more modern take.
In today’s post, I’m sharing an honest review of our new Bellamia Bella Sofa, including my experience with ordering and delivery, what I love (and don’t), if I’d recommend it, and everything I think you should know before buying.
*In full transparency, Bellamia graciously gifted me this couch but all of my thoughts and opinions in this post are honest and real.

Why We Chose the Bellamia Bella Pit Modular Sofa
Our newly renovated basement absolutely has changed how we live in our home. It took our square footage from 1250sqft to 2500sqft and has given us more breathing room to live and host people.
Room For Hosting & A New Upstairs Layout
We transitioned our upstairs living room into a sitting room with no tv. We rearranged the couch and chairs to face each other, and created an open flow to the dining room and kitchen. Our whole upstairs feels bigger! A few months into this set up, we’ve found ourselves enjoying a more welcoming vibe that comes with deeper conversations and more connection. Just what we needed in the heart of our home.
Next, we set out to create the ultimate hang out space in our basement living room.
Our original design plans include an arched bar for snacks and drinks, a built-in table with seating for eating, board games, and puzzles, and just enough room for a deep-seat couch for watching movies.
Why A Modular Pit Sofa?
The basement living space shares similar struggles to our upstairs living room: it’s narrow and includes a walkway right through it.
So while we wanted a big couch, we also needed to make sure it wouldn’t cut off the room and take over the space.
It couldn’t be too long, and we wanted to maximize the depth to keep it cozy and luxurious.
Enter: the pit sofa!
The Bellamia Bella Sofa caught my attention because of its oversized design, modular layout, and performance fabrics.

We’ve never owned a modular sectional. The flexibility of a customizable sofa was appealing so we could adjust it as our family and home changes.
I’ve long-admired a friend’s extra-deep couch and knew I wanted to incorporate that into our basement living space. Something about it feels extra cozy and snuggly.
A High-End Style, But For A Family
First and foremost, we needed a couch that’s family-friendly. The Bellamia Bella Sofa has machine-washable couch covers and it’s performance fabrics are spill-resistant, giving us peace of mind about everyday life with kids and their friends.
Some of the issues I’ve seen with modular sofas involve the cushions and bases. I don’t have the patience for re-fluffing or reshaping frumpy cushions. Cushions that sink too deep, lose their shape, or come off too easily are a no-go. It was also important that the bases could lock together and stay in position, so we wouldn’t have to reset everything when we wanted to use it.
I honestly was skeptical about how the Bellamia Bella Sofa would do in this arena. I searched lots of reviews to see how the cushions stayed put or if they lost their shape over time, but I couldn’t find much. Bellamia has helpful info on their website about how their bases lock together, but I questioned how well they’d stay together.
After receiving the sofa and using it for a week, I can tell you from our experience that while the bottom cushions don’t attach to the base, they’re big and solid enough that they don’t slide around. The bottom and back cushions are plush and heavy. I’m confident they’ll hold their shape over time.
The individual bases do lock securely together, and we’ve had minimal issues with movement. This modular sofa is the best of both worlds–being able to configure the shape as needed, AND it feels like one solid piece of furniture when it’s assembled.

First Impressions
The Bella Pit Sofa is a dream! It is gorgeous, comfortable, massive, and everything we hoped for. It absolutely exceeded my expectations.
I was nervous about ordering such a substantial piece of furniture without being able to sit on it in person.
What if it’s uncomfortable, feels/looks cheap, and won’t last?
After ordering their free fabric swatches and measuring the space, we decided to risk it.
Once it arrived, I immediately noticed how high-end it looks and feels. The dusty green linen color is earthy and beautiful. It could not have been easier to put together–it truly is a tool-free sofa assembly (THANK YOU). The backs slide right into brackets on the base and feel very secure. The bases then click together to lock each piece into position. So easy.
The Bellamia Bella Sofa feels sturdy, solid, and is clearly made of high quality materials. It feels like a durable piece of furniture that will last for years to come.

What We Love about the Bellamia Bella Sofa
There’s so much to love about this couch. But before you click order, here’s specifically why we love it.
Materials & Construction
The Bella Sofa is built with materials intended for everyday living. Some of the features I appreciate most include…
- Solid hardwood frames that feel sturdy and well built
- Supportive cushions that hold their shape over time
- Hypoallergenic cushion filling
- Performance fabrics that resist spills
- Chemical free materials
- OEKO-TEX certified fabrics
- Animal free & vegan materials
We’ve bought our fair share of cheap and fast furniture over the years. And we’ve experienced them wearing and tearing faster than we expected.
High quality construction, durable materials, and attention to detail go a long way to protect your investment. It’s clear the Bellamia Bella Sofa is made to last and maintain its quality.
Comfort & Everyday Living
This is the kind of sofa you can face-plant into and stay there. The kind you can curl into and fall asleep.
We’re finding that our family gravitates towards this couch at all times of day. The pit configuration makes it easy to pile on for a movie, and for us to all hang out while doing our own thing (reading, playing the Nintendo Switch, napping). It’s quickly becoming our family’s fav spot in the house to relax.
We recently hosted family passing through town, and three of their boys slept on this couch easily. For an afternoon rest time, all six cousins fit comfortably to watch a movie together. This couch made hosting everyone so much easier!
The cushions feel supportive without feeling too firm. They don’t need constant reassembling or fluffing to maintain their shape (low maintenance for the win).
The seating is deep enough that you want to pull your legs up. The oversized cushions give you plenty of room to spread out.
Because our living room is small, I appreciate the extra storage in the center ottoman for blankets.
Overall, the Bella Pit Sofa has created a soft space to retreat in our home.

Customer Experience
We had a great experience with Bellamia throughout the process. They were easy to reach when I had a question, and it was smooth sailing from ordering through delivery.
The sofa arrived well packaged and protected. Shipping took longer than expected, but they kept me in the loop via email. The delivery company kept me updated with texts too. I was able to schedule a delivery date that worked for us, and they loaded all the boxes into the basement for us, which was really helpful.
What I Wish Were Different
More Fabric Options
My girls and I can be sensory sensitive, meaning we can’t handle clothes and materials that feel scratchy or uncomfortable. So I knew it would be important to choose a fabric that was soft, otherwise we’d never use this couch.
I ordered their free fabric swatches and fell in love with the look of the velvet options, especially the Dusty Blue. But I had a feeling they’d be sweaty and uncomfortable long-term.
Boucle is always beautiful, but I was concerned about piling and maintenance. I’d rather save this texture for an accent chair or something that gets less daily use.
The chenille felt the softest, but the colors weren’t ideal for our space.
We opted for their linen material because it felt the most breathable and soft, but I wish there had been more color options to choose from. I would have loved a blue or navy linen!
In full transparency, the linen does feel a little itchy. There are small fibers that feel a little bit pokey throughout, almost like when a down feather starts to come out of a pillow (but smaller and less intense). This isn’t a huge deal, but I was a little disappointed by this. I hope it gets softer with time.
Back Height
While I love the low-profile look of modern sofas, I wish the back were higher for better neck and back support. This is more the norm these days, and I hope modern furniture design swings away from this in the future or we’re all going to need chiropractors.
A Note On Shipping
Lastly, I misunderstood the shipping timeline so it took a little longer to arrive than I expected. After ordering, Bellamia gave me an estimated shipping window, which is when they expected the item to leave their warehouse and be handed off to a delivery partner. Once it was handed off, the delivery partner contacted me to schedule the actual delivery. Bellamia and the delivery partner did keep me informed with emails and texts throughout the process.
Is the Bellamia Bella Sofa Worth It?
Absolutely!!
I’m a big believer in sustainable home design. Buy once, use forever. Investing in high-quality pieces will save you money over time because they don’t need to be replaced as often.
The Bellamia Bella Sofa checks all the boxes in terms of quality, comfort, and style. It’s perfect for our family and our home. I’m so grateful we took a chance on it.
If you’re shopping for a high quality, comfortable modular sofa, I definitely recommend Bellamia and the Bella Sofa!

Final Thoughts on the Bellamia Bella Pit Sofa
Our home is designed to be lived in. We wanted a couch that could handle everyday life and meet our elevated style goals for this space.
So far, the Bella Sofa has done exactly that.
It’s an important piece to help ground our basement design, and I can’t wait to see this whole room come together as we tackle future projects like the arched bar and built-in table and seating.
